Power of Attorney

(aka Attorney-in-Fact or Agent)

Power of Attorney: Welcome

What is a Power of Attorney?

A power of attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint a person or entity to manage your affairs if you become incapacitated, are otherwise unable to conduct particular tasks yourself, or simply want assistance in certain areas of life.  As the person who creates and signs a Power of Attorney, you are known as the "principal." The person or entity named in a Power of Attorney to act in your place is referred to as your "agent" or "attorney-in-fact."  There are many types of Powers of Attorney that range from general to specific. Each one gives a different level of control over specified aspects of your life. The type of Power of Attorney you create depends on what you want your agent to be able to do on your behalf. A Power of Attorney should outline specifically the authority and decisions that can be made on your behalf.

Our Power of Attorney Services

As your agent under a Power of Attorney, we act on your behalf in whatever way you specifically outline in your Power of Attorney (as created by you or you and your attorney).

We are able to act as your agent under a Special Power of Attorney, which gives us the authority to act on your behalf in specific situations only.  For example, you may want us to only manage your personal finances, handle the sale of specific real estate or personal property, or conduct a one-time business transaction on your behalf.

Under a Durable Health Care Power of Attorney, we can act as your agent over health care decisions if you become too ill or incapacitated to make those types of decisions for yourself.

We can also be your agent under a General Power of Attorney, which gives us complete authority to act on your behalf in most situations, including matters concerning personal finances, real and personal property, and business transactions.

Whatever your Power of Attorney specifies, we will act on your behalf to ensure that desired needs are met.
